CAN YOU HELP HERTFORD MUSEUM?
The pictures below are said to be of East Herts League matches, date unknown. Can you provide any information? If you can, email Elaine please.
The date of these photos is intriguing - the ladies watching all have long skirts, but the men don't have facial hair! There are crossbars (introduced in 1875) and goalnets (introduced 1890) but the players have no shirt numbers. The match officials are wearing jackets! I reckon they are just pre-Great War era??
If the pictures are of East Herts League matches, and show Hertford Town as we know them. they must be around 1908 and at Hertingfordbury Park. The Club won the East Herts League in 1908/9 and then began playing in the Herts County League.
