NORWEGIAN INVASION
We were surprised to encounter nine happy Norwegians on Saturday afternoon. They had flown in to Stansted, hired a narrow boat at Broxbourne and came up the Lee to Hertford. They knew about the game from this website, and had decided to come to the game!
These were the second bunch of Norwegians to visit the ground in this way, but there were more of them this time!
The visitors bought hats and scarves and learned the Choir's anthem "Hertford Town, Hertford Town, Hertford Town..." which they chanted throughout the game. They helped to provide a tremendous atmosphere for the match and did no harm to the bar takings either!
They were impressed by Lee Roberts' raids down the left wing and wanted to sponsor him. He'd already got sponsors, so they decided on Pablo. He was photographed after the game with the lads.
During their visit they also visited other important landmarks in Hertford, including The Old Barge, The Black Horse, and for those still capable of walking there, the Baan Thitiya Thai Restaurant on St Andrews Street!
The group were all members of a club called FD Manndom, and came from a town called Tonsberg, about sixty miles south of Oslo. They were celebrating the anniversary of the founding of their club.
I reckon there's an opportunity here for Hertford Travel to arrange such tours for other groups! Perhaps some Swedes next!
