Hertford Town went in to what would be their last game of the season without a recognised strike-force, putting themselves at a disadvantage before a ball was kicked. They matched their visitors during the first half but in the second period Royston took control. For the second Saturday in a row the supporters at Hertingfordbury Park witnessed a goalless draw though this game was played in a far better spirit; Broxbourne Borough coming to play football rather than the more physical game preferred by the previous week's visitors. In truth 0-0 was a pretty fair result between two very evenly matched sides. It seemed nothing would get past V&E's outstanding goalkeeper, Obey Murefu, and the efforts of their danger man, Ryan Wade, were always thwarted by a resolute Hertford defence. As scoreless draw go, this was a pretty entertaining affair, with both sides exhibiting skilful football despite a slightly uneven pitch, and both will surely be teams to look out for next season.

SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN FOR BLUES
THURS 26 MARCH 2009
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER DIVISION
HERTFORD TOWN 2 (JAMIE ABBOTT, DARYL MITCHELL) HARINGEY BOROUGH 1
Going into this game the home side had the second best current form of any team in the division, having won five of their previous six league games. The visitors on the other hand had lost five of their previous six. On current form then, one could be forgiven for predicting an easy home win. However, this was the first match in charge for Haringey's new boss, Tom Loizou; all so often a change at the top can boost a team's performance. And so this game proved. The Blues just edged the first half but the visitors belied their lowly league position and current run of form to match their hosts for the second. Indeed if it had not been for an outstanding reflex save by Lee Robinson and the referee turning down what appeared to be a good shout for a Haringey penalty, then the result could have been somewhat different. - READ ON

When I were a lad Thursday evenings meant Tomorrow's World and Top Of The Pops on the box. How I would sit in awe and wonderment as Raymond Baxter, William Woollard and Michael Rodd brought us the future, and then wait in anticipation to see what crazy threads Jimmy Saville would be wearing this week. Nowadays however, thanks to the pressure of European competition, big money television deals and congested non-league fixture lists, Thursday evenings means football, at least of sorts. This particular bitterly cold Thursday evening saw Hertford Town pay their second visit to Chalk Lane in less than two weeks ... READ ON

AYLESBURY VALE 0 HERTFORD TOWN 3
The last time Hertford Town visited Haywood Way they were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline in the Premier Division Cup. In this league match they experienced a complete reversal in fortune. A resurgent Blues side came away comfortable 3-0 winners, having played their attractive and effective passing game against their depleted hosts. It was also encouraging to see two players scoring for the first time this season.

The visitors, who included seven ex-Blues in their squad, went into this match on the back of five consecutive league victories, having conceded only a single goal in the process. Hertford Town on the other hand had put in two indifferent performances in the recent games against Cockfosters and Kentish Town. However, the first half of this game demonstrated the futility of relying on the form book to predict results, as the Blues dominated the match and scored what would prove to be the winner. The second half wasn't so pretty but they have at least shown how they can play as a unit. - READ ON

Due to uncertainties about Kentish Town's Copthall Stadium pitch, their 'home' fixture against Hertford Town was switched to Hertingfordbury Park, which had recovered remarkably well from the previous day's heavy rain. Last week a Dr Jekyll Hertford Town team quite easily saw off the challenge of basement side Holmer Green. This week's visit to the side just above them saw the Hertford Mr Hyde take the field of play. There were few changes to the side; Louis O'Neil made a rare start between the sticks in place of the poorly Lee Robinson and Chris Spiteri came in for the injured Andy Chapman. However the performance just wasn't there for some reason and the home side gathered a very valuable three points in their fight against relegation from the Premier Division. .... READ ON

After an enforced break of four weeks the Blues finally got back into action, and on a revitalised Hertingfordbury Park pitch, that prior to the game looked a lot better than it had done for some months. One might be forgiven for thinking that a game between a team lacking match practice and their main striker against the division's basement residents would end in a goalless stalemate, but this match was far from that.... Another game, more enforced changes and another below-par performance, but at least the goals conceded are getting fewer! The changes to the Hertford Town line-up this time were forced by the absence of Attila Korsoveczki due to work commitments and Duncan Hamilton through injury. Ryan Gordon returned at the unfamiliar left-back position and Andy Chapman started as the lone striker. Glenn Draper returned to the centre of defence and Dave Hunt resumed his more familiar midfield role. ..READ ON

A little more than 48 hours after completing an impressive win away at Spartan League Premier Division leaders, Harefield United, the same Hertford Town starting line-up took to the Broadhall Way pitch for this game in the Herts FA's flagship cup competition. It was always going to be a big ask against a team that included a number of players with Blue Square Premier experience. Another freezing match day at Hertingfordbury Park and another healthy turnout as a festively plump crowd squeezed through the turnstile and into the ground for the visit of Biggleswade United. The Blues came in to the match 12th in the table, three points and two places above the visitors and having scored six goals in the last two games. With Hertford having played four more games however, it was a good opportunity for Biggleswade to close the gap while still having games spare.

This was really a game of two halves, to use the old cliché. A pretty dour first half ended goalless, thanks in part to good work by both goalkeepers, including a couple of excellent saves by Hertford's Lee Robinson. SATURDAY 29 NOVEMBER : Dave Hunt received the "Player of the Month" award after the home game with Biggleswade Town.

On a crisp, winter afternoon, perfect for football, Biggleswade Town rolled into Hertingfordbury Park, third in the table and with a squad including former Hertford favourites Ryan Redford, Kevin Kilroy and the Blues all-time leading goal scorer, Kevin Cooper. What with Biggleswade's position in the table and the familiar faces on show, there was a noticeably excited anticipation among the biggest crowd of the season as 121 fans clicked through the turnstile and into the ground for what promised to be a highly charged contest. - MORE
