Biggleswade Town had the league's leading scorer Dan Heron, in their line-up and started the game joint top of the league. It was clear from the off that the visitors were going to prove tougher opponents than recent sides had been. Hertford were desperate to maintain their unbeaten home league record however, which stretched right back to August 2007. The Blues won a corner in the first minute but this was easily dealt with and The Waders soon mounted their own attacks. On 7 minutes though, Ian Cooper was fouled about 30 yards out in a central position. With no angle to work with, Kevin Kilroy placed his free kick over the bar. Ian Cooper was pulled up for an offside when he looked well on, then when Biggleswade won a free kick, Stefan Dancy's firm header was tipped over the bar by an agile Mark Virgo, for a corner.
When Hertford hit back on 12 minutes, Dave Hunt and Ryan Redford burst through the visitors' defence, only for Kevin Randall to bring down Redford to concede a penalty. With regular penalty taker Kevin Cooper not playing, skipper KEVIN KILROY accepted responsibility, and after waiting while Randall was booked, coolly slotted home to put the Blues 1-0 up. Ther ewas barely time for the home fans in the crowd of 111 to savour the goal before Biggleswade were given their own chance from the spot, on 16 minutes. Glenn Draper was adjudged to have held down a Biggleswade forward, and SCOTT FIELD expertly beat Mark Virgo, the first goal conceded by Virgo in 286 minutes of football since his return from injury.
There was little to chose between the two sides but The Waders' cause was not helped when goalscorer Field limped off on 30 minutes, to be replaced by Chris Hewitt. On 34 minutes, Dave Hunt managed an excellent overhead kick at close range, but his goalbound effort struck a defender and bounced to safety. Then 'keeper Springham rushed out to fly kick the ball away, only for it to rebound to Ryan Redford. The striker put in a really good effort from an acute angle, but the ball went the wrong side of the far post. On 42 minutes, Mark Virgo was required to make another good stop, then on 45 minutes he tipped the ball over the bar with a flying save.
Ryan Redford was booked for a clumsy challenge in front of the dugouts and the half ended with some bad feeling ,which saw Glenn Draper booked after the half had ended. Celebrity spectators Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa could not have been over impressed with the antics of some of the players as the half ended.

Biggleswade came out of the blocks quicker than the home side, and Mark Virgo, fast becoming the MOM for the home side, had to make a save from a good header from big striker Jamie Steele. Dave Hunt was figuring a lot in the centre of the park, and, in the space of a couple of minutes, he was fouled by Steel, came close with a shot when the pass was just a little too far behind him to give him a real chance, then he won acorner which resulted in a header over the bar from Kevin Kilroy. Nicky Marsh was so sure that he had won a throw in that he stopped a Biggleswade player from taking the throw awarded to him, and duly got a yellow card. Jack Weedon fired a Biggleswade free kick not far over the bar, then Lee Roberts had to switch the ball to his less favoured right foot before shooting just wide for the home side.
Nicky Marsh went down injured and had to be replaced by Matt Watts on 73 minutes. Biggleswade felt that they had scored when a header bounced near to the line, but the referee was having none of it and waved play on. Hertford raced downfield and Ian Cooper ought to have done better or passed to Redford. He fell under a challenge, but again the referee was not impressed. With 12 minutes left, a disappointing Dan Heron was replaced by Theo Ahene. There was some hope for The Blues when 'keeper Springham rushed out, surrounded by three Hertford forwards, and failed to pick up the ball. Unfortunately none of the Hertford attackers was able to get control of the ball and the opportunity was lost. The Waders lost a second player to injury when skipper Kevin Randall limped off, to be replaced by Paul Reynolds. Biggleswade might have taken all three points in added time, but Mark Virgo again came to his side's rescue with another fine save from an overhead kick by Jamie Steele. Kevin Kilroy was booked for dissent in the final seconds of the game.

Final Score: Hertford Town 1 Biggleswade Town 1
