Manager Dave Greenwood restored Pablo Ardiles to left back at the expense of new boy Michael Bakare, with Pani Panayiotou, recovered from injury, back in midfield.Ashley McAloon came in for his first start as a sweeper.
Team: 1. Mark Virgo, 2. Nicky Marsh, 3. Ashley McAloon, 4. Pablo Ardiles, 5. Glenn Draper, 6. Panayiotis Panayiotou, 7. Kevin Kilroy, 8. Scott Neilson, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper. 11. Lee Roberts. Subs used: 15. Michael Bakare (for Ardiles, 66), 16. Simon Eden (for Neilson, 60)

The game began in bright sunshine, in front of a season's best crowd of 156. Borough were without suspended ex-Blue Darryl Mitchell, but did include Gazmend Dauti, Rob Tungatt and Tony Neilson, all at Hertingfordbury Park last season.
In only the third minute, Hertford could have gone ahead when Scott Neilson saw his lob land on the crossbar, before visiting 'keeper Glen Williamson managed to knock the ball out for a corner. Broxbourne were unable to get the ball away, and Williamson was only able to parry a Kevin Kilroy shot to PANAYIOTIS PANAYIOTOU who sidefooted home from 6 yards to put the home side in the lead on 4 minutes.
To their credit, Broxbourne weren't fazed by this setback, and the game was very even. Ryan Redford burst clear on 18 minutes but the chance was lost, then Borough won the first of many corners as they pressed for an equaliser. Ex-Blue Gazmend Dauti shot high and wide as it looked like lack of firepower would be Broxbourne's undoing. On 32 minutes, Ryan Redford got clear but 'keeper Williamson made a magnificent save to thwart the leading scorer. At the other end Mark Virgo tipped an Emile Aitkin header around the post to preserve Hertford's slender lead.As the half drew to a close, Danny Ward nearly converted a Bradley Drysdale cross for the visitors, and Glenn Draper cleared off the line in Broxbourne's next attack.

Half Time: Hertford Town 1 Broxbourne Borough 0

Ryan Redford was booked for dissent immediately after the restart, apparently for complaining too much about an apparent penalty claim when Kevin Cooper was fouled in the box. Kevin Kilroy was also booked for dissent two minutes later. Pani Panayiotou shot just wide on 50 minutes, then Scott Neilson was substituted, with Simon Eden coming on in his place, on 53 minutes.
A minute later Kevin Cooper missed a golden chance from only 8 yards when he appeared to lean back too far as he skied over the bar. Bradley Drysdale had been having the freedom of the park without actually achieving much, but on 58 minutes he again beat Pablo Ardiles and lobbed the ball on to the top of the crossbar. On the hour Broxbourne took off Chris Theodoulou and sent on another ex-blue, Tony Neilson.
The game looked wrapped up for Hertford on 66 minutes, when the irrepressible RYAN REDFORD kept up his sensational scoring record by chesting the ball down in the box, and striking it past a helpless Glen Williamson. Williamson was hurt in a subsequent collision and needed prolonged treatment before he could continue.
Hertford sent on Micheal Bakare as a straight swap for Pablo Ardiles, in an apparent attempt to curb Drysdale. Redford got behind the visitors' defence on 72 minutes, but placed his cross behind Simon Eden at the far post. Mark Virgo made a good block from Emile Aiken, then almost immediately, there was an amazing miss from the normally deadly Kevin Cooper after a class through ball from Kevin Kilroy.
With the home supporters feeling that three points were in the bag, and Broxbourne beginning to flag, everything was changed when EMILE AIKEN bundled the ball home after Mark Virgo had deflected a shot from Rakesh Dhall onto the bar. Buoyed by this goal, Broxbourne went after an equaliser, and eventually got one in the 89th minute. After Mark Virgo had looked to save the day with a double save, the referee shocked everyone in the ground by blowing up for a penalty and booking Glenn Draper. He explained afterwards that Draper had tugged the shirt of Danny Ward and prevented him from scoring. GAZMEND DAUTI duly dispatched the spot kick to bring the scores level. With little time left, the home side were unable to respond, and once again two points were surrendered late in a game.
For their part, Broxbourne Borough would feel that they deserved a share of the points for their overall display.

Final Score: Hertford Town 2 Broxbourne Borough 2
