SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISON
CHALFONT ST PETER 4 HERTFORD TOWN 0
Always likely to be a tough one, with central defenders Kilroy, Draper and Watts out, things got really tough when Ryan Wade was dismissed for stamping on 77 minutes, with the score at 2-0. Matt McArdle, who last week was required to play in goal, was drafted in as an emergency centre half to partner young reserve team player Shaun Crossley.
Hertford Town: 1. Lee Robinson, 2. Nicky Marsh, 3. Louis Lancaster, 4. Shaun Crossley, 5. Matt McArdle, 6. Ryan Wade, 7. Dave Hunt, 8. Nicky Burt, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper (Capt), 11. Pablo Ardiles. Subs Used: 12. Phil Goss (for Burt, 81), 15. Lee Roberts (for Lancaster, 58)
Chalfont St Peter: 1. Michael Powell-Simpson, 2. Ben Stack, 3. Jerome Okimo, 4. Ray Walsh, 5. John Carroll (Capt), 6. Alan Hedley, 7. Ryan Welsh, 8. Daniel Hughes, 9. Terrell Lewis, 10. Bradley Bubb, 11. Adam Bunce. Subs Used: 12. Joshua Francois (for Lewis, 85), 14. Toby Francis (for Welsh, 65),
The only incident worthy of note in the entire first half was when, against the run of play up to that point, TERRELL LEWIS opened the scoring for the home side with a terrific strike from the right hand corner of the 18 yard box, placing the ball just inside the post and too far away from Lee Robinson to give him a chance of saving it. A minute or two prior to that, Kevin Cooper had screwed a shot wide of the post when Ryan Redford chested the ball down to his strike partner, in Hertford's best opportunity so far. Neither side seemed capable of keeping the ball, which was no fault of the excellant Mill Meadow playing surface.
Half Time: Chalfont St Peter 1 Hertford Town 0
Shaun Crossley was rather harshly booked for a tackle from behind on Bradley Bubb on 52 minutes as Hertford looked to get a foothold on the game. Nicky Marsh was making some good runs down the right and from one of these Ryan Redford, given little space by his marker, shot tamely at the home keeper. On 57 minutes, Redford was fouled right on the edge of the penalty area, and Ryan Wade, who had scored with ease from a similar position on Saturday, lifted his free kick high over the bar.
Lee Roberts was introduced into the action on 58 minutes, with Louis Lancaster making way. As a unit, Hertford were taking too many risks going forward, and they were caught out in a big way on 64 minutes, when they were left helpless as a rapid attack saw Lee Robinson facing Terrell Lewis. Robinson looked to have gathered the ball but somehow let Lewis gain possession, and the centre forward crashed a shot against the bar. The rebound fell kindly to DANIEL HUGHES, who gleefully slammed the ball home to make it 2-0 to the home side. Chalfont St Peter immediately substituted Ryan Welsh, bringing on Toby Francis. On 68 minutes it looked like Nicky Marsh was about to get Hertford back into the game. A rapid run down the right followed by a dart into the middle set up a shot at goal, but the full back caught his studs in the turf as he shot, and the ball trickled into keeper Powell-Simpson's hands. Marsh needed treatment before he could continue.
What was already an uphill battle became an impossibility on 77 minutes when indiscipline by Ryan Wade saw him get a straight red card for stamping on Daniel Hughes. Nicky Burt was also shown a yellow card in the same incident, when both Hertford men appeared to assault Hughes at the same time. This was not a cup tie, and common sense suggested that all out attack on the home goal was a foolhardy strategy with only 10 men. Hertford paid a high price for this approach when first BRADLEY BUBB chased a long ball and netted past a helpless Lee Robinson, and then substitute Toby Francis raided down the right wing before crossing to another substitute, JOSHUA FRANCOIS, to sweep the ball home with possibly his first touch of the ball and make the score 4-0 - Hertford's worst defeat since joining the South Midlands League .
All in all a bad night for The Blues, who were unable to claim any credit for any aspect of a poor performance.
Final Score: Chalfont St Peter 4 Hertford Town 0
