This was our first match against another ex-Ryman team, and Chalfont had started their league campaign well, with a 1-0 win at Holmer Green, and a 7-2 win at home to Colney Heath on the same day as we netted 7 at Tring, so a close game was expected.

The first action of note was a goal for Hertford, when in the 9th minute Ryan Redford put a ball through to Lee ROBERTS, who finished with aplomb. Chalfont's first effort on goal came 5 minutes later when Barry Brosnan was put through and produced a good save by Mark Virgo.

The game continued fairly evenly, but Hertford went 2 up in the 26th minute when a miss-hit corner resulted in Ryan REDFORD scoring from 4 yards out. The next best chance fell to Chalfont's Lee Togwell, who snapped a shot aver the bar. Chalfont did score a couple of minutes before half time. Leo Turner lost the ball just inside the Hertford half, and Bradley Bubb rounded three defenders before a short pass to Barry BROSNAN who gave Virgo no chance from close range.

Chalfont changed tactics in the second half, and, realising that they had not the pace to defend against our forwards, played the offside with a vengeance. Time and again Redford or Roberts were through on goal only to be stopped by the assistant's raised flag. Hertford made a change in the 55th minute, with Kevin Cooper replacing Robbie Syrett. On 58 minutes, Nicky Marsh beat the offside trap and crossed to Cooper who shot wide.

At the other end, a good cross from Brosnan was headed wide by Matt Watts. The game continued in nail biting fashion for the attending Blues supporters, with our defence increasingly under attack. Just before the final whistle, Cooper had a golden opportunity to increase the lead but shot over from close range following a cross by Redford.

Supporters' MOM: Nicky Marsh tracked back well to help the defence, Roberts and Redford caused Chalfont all sorts of trouble with their pace up front, Matt Watts was a rock in defence, but the award today goes to Mark VIRGO who played a blinder. His best save didn't get a mention in the report as the shot was offside….
