SATURDAY 15 MARCH 2008 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
HERTFORD TOWN 3 COLNEY HEATH 0

The sudden departure of Ryan Redford to Ware may have been the main topic of conversation before the game, but the performance of the player who took over his No. 9 shirt, Hungarian Attila Korsoveczki , was what the fans were talking about after the game. Six footer Korsoveczki, already dubbed Attila The Hun-garian by the supporters, showed lots of really neat touches and supported Kevin Cooper up front really well. He capped a superb display by getting the final goal, albeit with a lot of help from a Colney Heath defender.
Before the kick off, Lee Roberts was the proud recipent of a trophy to recognise his 200th appearance for the club, which was in the recent game at Stansted.

Hertford tok the game to their visitors from the off, with wingers Lee Roberts and Phil Goss getting acres of space down the flanks. New boy Korsoveczki popped up in the 7th minute to head the ball on to the far post, and Colney Heath scrambled it away for the first of many corners. Heath were unable to get the ball clear and KEVIN COOPER slotted home career goal No. 206 as he homed in on legend Dave Whitehead's all time record of 216 goals.
Colney Heath managed a couple of corners without threatening to get level, but it continued to look as if The Blues were on their way to racking up a realy big score. Lee Roberts was clearly up for the task, and it needed fouls to stop him right on the edge of the box, on 14 minutes and again on 24 minutes. Both opportunities were spurned however, first by Ryan Wade and then by Kevin Cooper, although his effort was deflected for a corner. Pablo Ardiles was also raiding at will down the left, and a cross from him found Attila Korsoveczki, whose header was deflected for another corner. It was 2-0 on 38 minutes when Phil Goss exploited space down the right and cossed for LEE ROBERTS to lash an unstoppable volley to celebrate his day in style.
Korsoveczki was showing an excellant touch and awareness, and linked up well between Pablo Ardiles and Kevin Cooper before Cooper saw his shot tipped over by Tom Blackman in the Magpies' goal. Hertford raised their first half corner count to seven as they asked all of the questions, but could not add a third.

Half Time: Hertford Town 2 Colney Heath 0

Many coaches and managers say that 2=-0 is a dangerous lead, and after an apparent half time roasting, and two tactical substitutions, Colney Heath nearly proved that point. It looked as though the teams had exchanged shirts at half time as they bombarded the Hertford goal. From a 46th minute corner, they were convinced that the ball had crossed the line as Pablo Ardiles hooked it from under the bar. In the absence of Match of the Day video evidence we shall never know! The Magpies continued to dominate, and after winning another corner, they were awarded a penalty for hand ball. Ex Blue Neil Jordan stepped up to take the spot kick and to everyone's surprise, booted the ball well over the bar. This was the turning point of the game for the visitors. They nearly paid an immediate price for the miss, as Hertford raided swiftly, and a Phil Goss cross which evaded his strikers in the box very nearly crept in at the far post.
Lee Roberts nipped in to put up a ball for Dave Hunt to head, and he was not far wide of the mark. At the other end, Mark Virgo was alert enough to nick the ball off the head of Neil Jordan right in front of goal, as he tried to atone for the penalty miss. Lee Roberts continued to figure prominently, and on 69 minutes got a shot on target, only for keeper Blackman to turn the ball round the post for a corner. The next time Roberts got free, Neil Jordan was booked for bringing him down. Phil Goss went close for Hertford and then Colney Heath won a free kick in a dangerous place when Sean Crossley was adjudged to have fouled centre forward Ashley Amaikhu. Nathan Eno's kick found Amaikhu's head, but he could only manage a tame effort into Mark Virgo's waiting hands. Ryan Wade made way for Matt McArdle on 75 minutes and received his customary accolade from the supporters. When Phil Goss floated over an inswinging corner on 77 minutes, Sean Crossley made contact with a header at the far post, but Blackman held on well.
On 81 minutes, Mark Virgo miskicked an attempted clearance from a backpass, and the ball fell to Ashley Amaikhu. Virgo made up for the mistake by smothering the ball though before Amaikhu could bring it under control.
Dave Hunt came off to make way for Ross Collins with five to go and Collins almost immediately set up a goal when he found Lee Roberts with a good pass. But Roberts' effort this time was nowhere near as good as his goalscoring one. ATTILA KORSOVECZKI had worked tirelessly up front on his debut, and on 88 minutes played a sublime one-two with Phil Goss before shooting at goal. The ball was turned in by a Magpie's defender, but Korsoveczki's role in the game as a whole deserved a goal to finish it off.
There was still time for further bombardment of the visitors' goal. Korsoveczki laid on a chance for Ross Collins, whose firm drive just faded past the post. Then, at the death, it was a comedy of errors as Nicky Marsh burst into free space in the middle of the Colney Heath defence, but although looking a certainty to score, he shot against the keeper's legs. The ball came out to Kevin Cooper, who looked to be performing a formality as he placed the ball home, but it struck the post and rebounded out.

Final Score: Hertford Town 3 Colney Heath 0
