SATURDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2006 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER DIVISION
HARINGEY BOROUGH 0 HERTFORD TOWN 9
Hertford registered their record away win with this complete trouncing of Haringey Borough. Borough were reduced to 10 men after 32 minutes, but the Blues were already on their way to victory, being 2-0 up at the time. Lethal front men Cooper and Redford got eight of the goals, to bring their total haul to 26 between them so far this season.
Hertford made two changes folllowing the disappointing draw at home to Biggleswade United, Pablo Ardiles coming in at left back for the injured Mark Teasdale and Paul Taylor replacing the unavailable Pani Panayiotou.
Hertford: 1. Mark Virgo, 2. Nicky Marsh, 3. Pablo Ardiles, 4. Matt Watts, 5. John Barker (capt), 6. Paul Taylor, 7. Leo Turner, 8. Scott Neilson, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper, 11. Lee Roberts. Subs Used: 12. Joel Maybury (for Marsh, 78), 14. Tom Neill (for Ardiles, 77)
It took a while for the game to develop, but as early as the 2nd minute, midfielder Paul Taylor let fly a rasping 30 yard drive which nearly caught out home 'keeper Julian Roberts. Bradley Drisdale got in a smart cross but the ball just evaded the head of the inrushing Uduma Kalu as Haringey pressed. On 6 minutes Kevin Cooper gave a clue as to what sort of an afternoon he might have when he stole in to get a head onto a corner, but his contact was only thin. Then on 11 minute, Cooper saw his fine half volley tipped over the bar by Roberts for another corner. Then Scott Neilson put over a really good hanging cross which Ryan Redford headed over when Cooper was better placed beyond him. Pablo Ardiles stole in on 17 minutes but headed into the grateful arms of 'keeper Roberts as Hertford continued to build up a head of steam. It took until the 27th minute before Hertford made their pressure count. The ball broke to Leo Turner near the centre circle and he played a quick ball through to KEVIN COOPER, who ran on and netted coolly from 12 yards.
This was COOPER's last game before a 2 match suspension, and the striker was determined to get as many as possible today. He doubled his and Hertford's tally on 29 minutes, this time with a prod home from 6 yards after Scott Neilson and Lee Roberts had set it up for him. The game was beginning to show similarities to the previous away game, when Hertford ran up 7 against Arlesey Athletic. Swift flowing football was putting the home side under extreme pressure, and on 32 minutes things got worse when Borough skipper Tommy Catania was rather surprisingly shown a red card following a retaliatory barge into Nicky Marsh.
It wasn't long before the 3rd goal came, when Lee Roberts ended a tricky run into the box by squaring the ball to KEVIN COOPER, who fairly thumped the ball into the net for his hat-trick. On the stroke of half time, Scott Neilson tried to get in on the action but failed to find the net at the end of a penetrating run into the box.
Half Time: Haringey Borough 0 Hertford Town 3
It didn't take long for Hertford, playing in their "lucky" red away kit to make it four. Scott Neilson, up against Borough's best player on the day, Michael Bakare, saw KEVIN COOPER free and got in a 48th minute cross which Cooper lashed home from the edge of the box.
Lee Roberts saw his good strike held by the 'keeper, and then, on 53 minutes, PABLO ARDILES stole in from the left to net confidently from 8 yards for 5-0. It was remarkable to see Hertford leading 5-0 with RYAN REDFORD involved but not having scored. He soon put that right. On 57 minutes, he rounded the 'keeper and slotted home from close range for 6-0, then a minute later added another from a Scott Neilson assist for 7-0. Haringey used their full quota of subs, including former Clapton striker Roy "Junior" Jones, but it made no difference. KEVIN COOPER got his fifth on the hour, this time made by Ryan Redford, and then there was a gap of 23 minutes before the ninth. Hertford had taken off their full backs, Ardiles and Marsh, and replaced them like for like with Tom Neill and Joel Maybury, and looked to be coasting to an 8-0 victory. But RYAN REDFORD wanted his hat trick ,and got it on 83 minutes, when he coolly scored from close range to make it 9-0. At the very end, Kevin Cooper so nearly made it 10 and a best ever 6 for him, but just failed to turn the ball in.
Final Score: Haringey Borough 0 Hertford Town 9
