SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE - PREMIER DIVISION
HERTFORD TOWN 2 KINGSBURY LONDON TIGERS 1
Hertford were unchanged for the first time in the league this season as they looked to make it two home wins out of two over the Christmas period. Kingsbury London Tigers were much sterner opposition than last week's though, and it took a goal form Phil Goss in the eighth minute of added time to take the ponits.

The overnight rain had made the pitch difficult in the centre and there was a swirling wind, both conspiring to make control difficult. Hertford kicked towards the training ground end and could have taken an early lead through Ryan Redford when, in a period of concerted attack, Lee Roberts twice crossed to the No. 9. On the second occasion visiting 'keeper Siki Kambila made a spectacular leap to clutch the ball. On six minutes though there was danger for Hertford when Pany Panayiotou misplaced a pass to Pablo Ardiles and possession was lost to Renars Zarchenko. The wide man made a total hash of his goal attempt though to spare Panayiotou's blushes.
Then Matt Watts confidently let the ball roll out for a goal kick only to be shocked when the referee signalled a corner.
When this was delivered, Dave Hunt stole the ball and came out with it to set up an attack through Lee Roberts which ended when Ryan Redford lost the ball. Tigers hit back and Hardy Moriero hit a 22 yard effort just over the bar. Then he caused the home side a moment of concern when he took a free kick from all of 40 yards and it required a smart save from Lee Robinson to tip the ball over the bar for a corner kick. On 17 minutes, a slick move by The Blues involving Redford, Cooper and Lee Roberts saw the left winger fire into the side netting. When Roberts raided down the left, his deep cross was headed back across goal by Phil Goss, and Kevin Cooper saw his close range header saved by keeper Kambila.
Hertford came closest to opening the scoring when Lee Roberts took a free kick out on the left, only 12 yards from the goal line. Kevin Cooper rose well to power a header which brought a gasp from the crowd as it just cleared the crossbar. Tigers were starting to become more adventurous and this actually cost them dearly, as Hertford hit them on the break on 32 minutes, when RYAN REDFORD sped on to a long ball out of defence, and calmly slotted past Kambila for his 24th goal of the seasonm.
It was largely Hertford now as they looked to increase their advantage. Lee Roberts picked out Dave Hunt who was only able to get a faint touch with his header. then Ryan Redford brought another gasp from the crowd when his header fell on to the top of goal net.
Half Time: Hertford town 1 Kingsbury London Tigers 0
It took the visitors only seven minutes of the second period to draw level. When Lee Robison beat out a shot on 52 minutes, the ball fell kindly to the in-rushing RENARS ZARCHENKO, who was free to tap the ball home. This was more than just a wake up call to Hertford, and Tigers looked capable of causing a major upset. Matt Watts became the game's first player to be booked, on 63 minutes, which seemed a little harsh as the Tigers' player seemed to "buy" the free kick. Two minutes later Kevin Cooper was also booked, as perhaps the home side were trying that little bit harder to get back the initiative.
Tigers brought off the affro sporting Kye Davies, who had fought valiantly alone up front, and sent on Elton Almeida. On 72 minutes, left back Terence Cariba came mighty close to putting his side behind when he headed powefully only inches over his own bar to concede a corner. This resulted in another corner as Ryan Redford's shot was deflected. As Hertford piled on the pressure, Matt Watts got his head on to a Lee Roberts free kick and forced a save from Kambila which appeared to bring another corner until the referee spotted his assistant flagging for a foul on Kambila.
Ryan Redford became the third home player to be yellow carded, when he went in high to try and regain possession. Almost immediately Dave Hunt followed him into the referee's book, for another over zealous tackle. Hertford replaced their centre midfield, sending on Ross Collins and Paul Taylor in place of Panayiotou and Hunt, and Tigers sent on Isaac Lockhert for goalscorer Zarchenko. Hertford were throwing everything at their visitor now, pinning them in their own half. Several corners were won and wasted, then, following a spell of pin-ball which ended with GLenn Draper's on target shot rebounding out to Lee Roberts, the winger, 23 today, fired high over the bar.
In a rare breakaway by Tigers, Glenn Draper misjudged his header back towards goal and Lee Robinson was required to rush out at speed to hack the ball clear and save the day. A goal at this point would surely have won the game for Tigers. Tigers' outstanding player, Adriano Gomes Margues had to leave the field injured with three minutes of added time played, to be replaced by Sherif Obeid, and this loss did not help Tigers' cause. With Hertford camped in their last third, Almeida was booked for not retreating at a free kick, and the game was held up for some time because all the available balls had been kicked out of the ground (mostly by Hertford players, it must be said). With the minutes ticking by, one final assault down the left by Hertford led to a cross into the goalmouth, which PHIL GOSS swept home to send the home fans and players delirious with joy. Ther were only seconds left, and a vital victory had been achieved against a very resolute side.
Final Score: Hertford Town 2 Kingsbury London Tigers 1
