SATURDAY 27 JANUARY 2007 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
LANGFORD 1 HERTFORD TOWN 5

Mark Virgo was still out with a foot injury, so he had to miss a league game for the first time in a year. Nick Barnaby continued to deputise, and Kevin Kilroy returned after his three match ban. Phil Goss was unavailable, so Tony Neilson gota first start after his recent move from Broxbourne Borough.
Team: 1. Nick Barnaby, 2. Nicky Marsh, 3. Pablo Ardiles, 4. Kevin Kilroy, 5. Glenn Draper, 6. Paul Taylor, 7. Panayiotis Panayiotou, 8. Tony Neilson, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper, 11. Lee Roberts. Subs Used: 12. Ryan Wade (for Neilson, 57), 14. Mark Seller (for Panayiotou, 79), 15. Michael Bakare (for Ardiles, 66)

Straight from the kick-off Kevin Cooper played in strike partner Ryan Redford, and the 40 goal man easily threaded his way through the home defence and looked to have opened the scoring, but his shot brushed the far post and went behind. A minute later, Kevin Cooper had the ball in the net, but had been foiled by the Langford offside trap. Langford hit back and won a free kick, which Nick Barnaby collected safely. Then Ryan Redford was fouled as he bore down on goal, and the referee waved play on as Redford had got back up with the ball. He ran on but placed his shot into 'keeper Dan Goad's grateful grasp. Hertford were pummelling the home defence and, after a corner, Redford was chopped down just outside the box by Willetts, who then appeared to push Redford over. The referee raced in and showed a red card to Willetts, which seemed a bit extreme at this early stage of the game. Then, to Redford's absolute disbelief, he too was shown a red card. He appeared to be completely the innocent party in the incident and no-one could believe that he had to leave the field.
Kevin Kilroy took the resultant free kick, which 'keeper Goad saved easily. Langford's Mark Barnes was booked for a foul as things got a little bit heated following the double dismissal. Langford had their best spell of the game as they won three corners in sucession, with Tony Neilson being rquired to hack the ball off the line to save a certain goal from the third of them. Lee Roberts had a shot well saved and Jack Greeson nearly put Langford ahead before, on 31 minutes, KEVIN COOPER pushed the ball into the box with the intention of running on to it, only to see home defender Dorian Small fall onto the ball and handle it. The referee immediately awarded a penalty but did not seem to think that Small had denied a goalscoring opportunity, as he didn't even book him. Cooper duly dispatched the spot kick high into the net to the 'keeper's right to put the Blues 1-0 up.
On 35 minutes, Pablo Ardiles got forward and his shot was nearly too hot for Dan Goad to hold. Langford's Dave Cook was yellow carded for a foul on Lee Roberts on 37 minutes and Kevin Cooper's header from the free kick was caught by the 'keeper.
Nicky Marsh was also booked for pulling back a Langford forward, but the resultant free kick, on the edge of the box was charged down.

Half Time: Langford 0 Hertford Town 1

Kevin Cooper ran through on his own on 48 minutes, beating the offside trap, but his chip wasn't good enough to clear 'keeper Goad. It wasn't long before Hertford went two up though, as, on 56 minutes, PABLO ARDILES cut into the box from the left and struck a firm shot into the far corner of the net. Hertford immediately sent on Ryan Wade for Tony Neilson. It was 3-0 on 63 minutes, when KEVIN COOPER ran on to a good pass from Paul Taylor, took the ball close before prodding it into the righthand corner of the net, underneath the diving home 'keeper.
Pablo Ardiles needed treatment for a knock, and then gave way to Michael Bakare, on 66 minutes. Hertford's full backs were raiding down the wings frequently, and on 73 minutes right back NICKY MARSH scored his first ever goal for the Blues when he ran on to a ball set up by Lee Roberts and Kevin Cooper to make it 4-0. Langford were still looking to score, and did so on 76 minutes when Thomas Mustapha smashed the ball home from close range as Hertford seemed unable to clear their lines for once.
Paniotis Panayiotou played a smart one-two with Lee Roberts but saw his fierce drive go just past the wrong side of the post. The subs board was already out calling him in though, and Mark Seller replaced him. Michael Bakare did really well to get into the box and get in a shot, which the inrushing Kevin Cooper nearly reached with his head. On 90 minutes, Michael Bakare again got into the box, and instead of having a go himself, crossed to Lee Roberts. Unfortunately it hadn't been Lee's afternoon abd he blasted over the bar. With two minutes of added time played though, Mark Seller played an exquisite through ball past the static home defence, and LEE ROBERTS found himself one-on-one with home 'keeper Dan Goad. He fully redeemed himself by rounding Goad and slotting the ball home from a couple of yards.

Final Score: Langford 1 Hertford Town 5
