TUES 12 FEBRUARY 2008 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER DIVISION
HERTFORD TOWN 6 LONDON COLNEY 0

Manager Dave Greenwood made several changes for this one - Nicky Marsh was out injured and skipper Kevin Kilroy came back from injury to replace him at right back. Pany Panayiotou and Dave Hunt replaced Ryan Wade and Matt McArdle in centre midfield, and, with Kevin Cooper suspended for the forthcoming big game with Biggleswade Town, he was left on the bench so that brother Ian and Ryan Redford could get some experience together before Saturday.

This was always going to be a difficult evening for bottom of the league London Colney, and so it proved. It did not help their cause to lose their goalkeeper with a 30th minute injury, nor when Jermaine Davey got a second yellow card on 65 minutes. Hertford won at a canter even allowing for the luxury of leaving top scorer Kevin Cooper on the bench.
Hertford went straight on the attack and RYAN REDFORD, restored to the starting line-up, broke his personal famine as early as the 3rd minute with a fine individual goal from an acute angle. It was then shooting practice for Dave Hunt, Pany Panayiotou and Ian Cooper punctuated only by London Colney's Cain Davey with their only real chance of the game, when he should have scored but made a complete hash of his finish. Ryan Redford and Ian Cooper were too quick for the visitors' defence, and one glorious 1/2 between the pair led to Ian Cooper putting just a little too much on the pass to enable Redford to get to the ball, right in front of goal. It fell to PHIL GOSS to score number two on 26 minutes when he slid the ball home at the near post from 6 yards after 'keeper Stuart McCall had parried Ryan Redford's shot. McCall was injured during this attack, and had to be lifted off the pitch. After a brief delay to see if he could resume, substitute Tony Caines, an outfield player, came on in his place. The visitors' Cain Davey became the first booking of the evening quickly followed by Jermaine Davey, after a clash with Kevin Kilroy. IAN COOPER ensured that The Blues went in 3-0 up at half time, when he fired home a rocket from 10 yards which gave the stand-in 'keeper no chance of saving. Cain Davey got in a good cross shot which went pretty close as Mark Virgo watched it past the post, then Lee Roberts went even closer at the other end, just failing to cap a fine run with a goal. There was just time for London Colney's Paul Armstrong to be the third visitor booked, for a foul, although this one looked a litle harsh.

Half Time: Hertford Town 3 London Colney 0

Hertford were able to take the game almost at a stroll, so dominant were they. Kevin Kilroy shot wide after exchanging passes with Phil Goss, then Dave Hunt won a corner. Pablo Ardiles was injured by a crunching tackle from Winston Taylor, who was lucky to escape a booking, and Ardiles had to leave the field to be replaced by Ryan Wade. Wade went to right back, with Kevin Kilroy switching to the left. Taylor got his yellow card shortly afterwards, for another foul and then Jermaine Davey was invited to leave the field when shown his second yellow card of the game, as the visitors continued to tackle rather too heavily.
Three goals to the good, against 10 men with an outfield player in goal, Hertford could continue to attack at will, and the quickfire IAN COOPER eventually put the ball in the net at the third attempt, on 69 minutes. London Colney sent on Dominic Haynes for Cain Davey after this, and Ryan Redford picked up his 5th booking and an obligatory one match suspension when he was pulled up for a 72nd minute foul. Colney made their third and final substitution on 76 minutes, when Darren Till replaced Winston Taylor. On 76 minutes, an Ian Cooper effort was beaten out to Phil Goss, whose shot was deflected for a corner. RYAN WADE popped up to loop a header over the stand-in 'keeper from a free kick to make it 5-0 on 77 minutes, and Hertford then made a double substitution in midfield, with Carl Ashton and Matt McArdle replacing Panayiotou and Hunt.
Hertford won a succession of corners as they looked for a sixth goal, but it didn't look like materialising until IAN COOPER completed his hat-trick in the last minute with anothe fine strike.

Final Score: Hertford Town 6 London Colney 0
