TUESDAY 16 OCTOBER 2007 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER DIVISION LONDON COLNEY 0 HERTFORD TOWN 3

Saturday's victorious line up was retained, apart from the return from suspension of skipper Kevin Kilroy in place of Robbie Carroll.
Team: 1. James Sturgeon, 2. Pablo Ardiles, 3. Louis Lancaster, 4. Kevin Kilroy (capt), 5. Glenn Draper, 6. Matt McArdle, 7. Phil Goss, 8. Nicky Burt, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper, 11. Lee Roberts. Subs Used: 14. Robbie Carroll (for Lancaster, 74), 15. Ross Collins (for Burt, 68), 16. Matt Watts (for Ardiles, 90)

The game was played in a downpour, which only seemed to make the lush surface all the better. The home side were looking for their first league win at Cotlandswick since the opening day of the season, but it looked from the outset that the visitors were going to be too strong. As early as the 4th minute, Hertford could have taken the lead when, following a corner by Lee Roberts, Ryan Redford directed his header into the ground and keeper Franklin parried away. Kevin Cooper then presented Redford with another opportunity and this time the strikers' effort was blocked. On 13 minutes Pablo Ardiles saw his firm drive tipped over the bar by Franklin for a corner, then at the other end the home side nearly took an unlikely lead through a bizarre incident which saw a clearance from Hertford's keeper James Sturgeon cannon back off a London Colney player, and very nearly beat Sturgeon.
Immediately, Ryan Redford played a good ball out to Lee Roberts and the left winger let fly with a rocket which only missed by a foot or so. On 17 minutes a deep cross from Louis Lancaster nearly beat Franklin under his crossbar, but he was just able to keep it out. Kevin Cooper shot over the bar, then Ryan Redford was felled on the edge of the box for a free kick which was quickly taken by Kevin Cooper, too quickly for Lee Roberts, who was unable to make use of the pass.
London Colney hit back and won a corner, from which Phil Goss had to chest the ball off the line. Another free kick for the visitors in a dangerous area was wasted when Kevin Kilroy's effort went straight to keeper Franklin. London Colney's Tinashe Jaravaza had a good run and shot, on 32 minutes, which required a one handed save from James Sturgeon, to win a corner, but it was Hertford who took the lead on 35 minutes. Lee Roberts put over a fantastic curving cross from the left, and PHIL GOSS was in the right place, unchallenged, to slide the ball home from his second goal in successive games. Kevin Kilroy had t omakea good saving tackle to prevent an equaliser, but the rest of the half was Hertford's as they won several corners from which both Cooper and Redford went close to increasing the lead.

Half time: London Colney 0 Hertford Town 1

While it was only 1-0 there was always the concern that it might not be enough, but in truth, Hertford looked in control of the situation. Cooper, Roberts and Redford combined well on 51 minutes before good work by Gabriel Francoise ended the attack at the expense of a corner. Hertford really pressured the ball from this but when Redford crossed to Goss, the midfielder headed wide. The home side had a long range effort from Cain Davey saved on the ground by James Sturgeon before Hertford were again threatening through a looping Ryan Redford header which just cleared the bar. London Colney sent on substitutes Dominic Haynes and Steve Seaby for Charlie Betts and Mark Whitaker on 56 minutes then had to replace the injured Tinashe Jaravaza with Martin Farrow. Hertford replaced Nicky Burt with Ross Collins after 68 minutes and then Pablo Ardiles was set up by Kevin Cooper to test keeper Franklin with a stinging drive. Hertford's anxieties were allayed on 73 minutes when PHIL GOSS again popped up in front of goal to tap home the second. This was the cue for the Hertford bench to send on Robbie Carroll for Louis Lancaster and the teenager immediately won a corner when his free kick from distance was deflected behind. Carroll was involved in all the remaining action, crossing for Cooper to miss narrowly with a lob, and then, when Phil Goss was robbed of a well deserved hat-trick by a great stop from Phil Franklin, CARROLL was on hand to tap home for 3-0. Matt Watts came on for Pablo Ardiles for the last few moments, and Franklin added to his impressive tally of saves with a wonderful one footed stop from Ryan Redford.

Final Score: London Colney 0 Hertford Town 3 . We hope you will find our website helpful and informative . There is a separate "Fans Forum", for which the Club accepts no reponsibility .
