SATURDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2008 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS PREMIER DIVISION
OXHEY JETS 0 HERTFORD TOWN 2

Hertford were without central defensive pair Kevin Kilroy (injured) and Glenn Draper (suspended) for this game, Matt Watts and Joel Maybury taking their place. Carl Ashton made his first league start for Hertford in the absence of Dave Hunt and Pany Panayiotou (both unavailable).
Team: 1. Mark Virgo, 2. Nicky Marsh, 3. Pablo Ardiles, 4. Joel Maybury, 5. Matt Watts, 6. Carl Ashton, 7. Ryan Wade, 8. Phil Goss, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper, 11. Lee Roberts. No subs used.
Oxhey Jets: 1. Ross Channer, 2. Ian Bywater, 3. Lee Grace, 4. Marc Ayres (capt), 5. Dave Maynard, 6. Warren Gladdy, 5. Karl Bull, 8. Sam Warrell, 9. Andrew Lomas, 10. Tim O'Mara, 11. Paul Danslow. Subs Used: 14. Wayne Gladdy (for Lomas, 70)

There was little to entertain the crowd in the early stages, with neither side able to gain the upper hand. A Lee Roberts cross just evaded Kevin Cooper and when Ryan Redford did get a shot in, keeper Channer held on comfortably. Twice when Jet attacked, the tall Paul Danslow just failed to get up high enough to connect with deep crosses. When Kevin Cooper fell dramatically under a challenge on the edge of the box, the referee quickly showed him a yellow card for "simulation". A long range effort from Jets' Tim O'Mara caused Mark Virgo to spill the ball, but there was no danger. At the other end a Ryan Redford shot was turned around the post for a corner, then Redford set off on a clever run through the home defence but his firm shot cannoned off the legs of keeper Channer. Ryan Wade was penalised for a foul on the edge of the box, but Paul Danslow crashed the free kick into the Hertford wall. Wade then made a tremendous run down the right and crossed to Ryan Redford, but again the home keeper blocked his effort with his legs.

Half Time: Oxhey Jets 0 Hertford Town 0

Nicky Marsh made one of his trademark, speedy, runs down the right and found Kevin Cooper with his cross. Coops was only able to shoot wide however, as it began to look like one goal might settle this game. Paul Danslow nearly provided it when he shot just wide from a fine pass by Karl Bull. Then the game turned on a 56th minute penalty, awarded for a hand ball by Ian Bywater. The home contingent were not very happy with the decision, but KEVIN COOPER gratefully took the spot kick and sent it high to Ross Channer's left to make it 1-0.
Jets tried to fight back, won a corner on the hour, and nearly equalised when the ball flew off Ryan Wade's head and was heading for the back of the net but for a timely block on the line by the well positioned Pablo Ardiles. Jets sent on Wayne Gladdy, to replace Andrew Lomas, but it was Hertford who were asking most of the questions now. When Lee Roberts chipped the ball up from the left, RYAN REDFORD cut in to the near post and scored the second on 73 minutes, with a deft header from a few yards.
Three minutes later, Redford was presented with a gift wrapped opportunity to get his second, but somehow lifted the ball over the bar from a few feet out, when a Kevin Cooper header set him up. On 80 minutes, Pablo Ardiles ran into the Jets box, evading several challenges before firing in a shot which the sound home keeper blocked with his legs. Then Jets had their best chance of the game, when Paul Danslow hit the crossbar with force with a good strike. Twice Mark Virgo tipped speculative shots over the bar to keep a clean sheet, having conceded just the one penalty in five league matches since returning from injury.
