TUESDAY 5 DECEMBER 2006 - HERTS SENIOR CUP 2nd ROUND
HERTFORD TOWN 3 POTTERS BAR TOWN 2

Another Ryan Redford hat-trick, his fourth of the season, was enough to take The Blues through to the quarter Finals of the Herts Senior Cup. This was a second consecutive victory over a team from Step 4, this time from Ryman 1 North, and, although Potters Bar were in the game right to the end, there was no obvious difference in class.
Hertford introduced 20 year old Michael Bakare for Lee Roberts, starting on the bench for the first time this season, in an otherwise unchanged line-up from Saturday.
Team: 1. Mark Virgo, 2. Ashley McAloon, 3. Pablo Ardiles, 4. Kevin Kilroy, 5. Glenn Draper, 6. Panayiotis Panayiotou, 7. Paul Taylor, 8. Scott Neilson, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper (capt), 11. Michael Bakare. Subs: 14. Lee Roberts (for Bakare, 56(, 15. Peter Lane (for Redford, 81), 16. Nicky Marsh (for Taylor, 76)

The pitch had dried out sufficiently for the game to go ahead but a strong wind combined with the bumpy pitch made proceedings difficult. It was not a night for defenders or 'keepers, and it was no surprise that there were lots of goals. Twice Potters Bar equalised, but in the end they couldn't get the vital goal to take the game to extra time, and it was Hertford who celebrated progress to the last 8 and a possible tie with one of the counties big boys.
Hertford took the lead after only 10 minutes, when Michael Bakare played a superb crossfield ball over the Scholars' defence to RYAN REDFORD, who calmly ran on and stroked the ball past ex-Hertford 'keeper Richard Hayward. Hertford continued to attack and a fine move on 13 minutes saw shots from Kevin Cooper and Ryan Redford blocked in quick succession by Hayward, before the ball fell to Pani Panayiotou, whose shot from distance was deflected for a corner.
The visitors were looking dangerous themselves, and eventually got level on 32 minutes when a wicked dipping shot from Gabriel Fanibuyen gave the advancing Mark Virgo no chance as it fairly flew into the net. A minute later Kevin Kilroy was booked for a foul, and Mark Virgo was called upon to make a fine flying save low down from the resultant free kick. On 38 minutes Scott Neilson provided a good assist to Kevin Cooper, but the skipper put his shot just wide. Then Paul Taylor played a fine ball out to Ryan Redford who crossed to Scott Neilson. The teenager chested the ball down expertly, but placed his shot just past the far post. As the home side continued to attack, Ryan Redford played Kevin Cooper in but Coops lobbed over the bar when well placed.

It only took Hertford 10 minutes of the second period to regain the lead, when RYAN REDFORD beat the offside trap to slot home from 12 yards., to the delight of his adoring fans behind the goal. Hertford immediately withdrew Michael Bakare and sent on Lee Roberts. On 63 minutes, The Scholars were level again, when PHIL TURNER stole in on the left hand side and lobbed the outrushing Mark Virgo. Although Glenn Draper appeared to have a chance of stopping the ball on the line he didn't succeed.
Hertford were regularly getting the ball forward quickly to the front men, and on 67 minutes a Kevin Cooper shot was well blocked by Richard Hayward and then Ryan Redford fired over the bar, when Kevin Cooper was waiting for a tap in had he pulled the ball back. The visitors sent on an old Hertingfordbury Park favourite when Curtis Johnson replaced Gabriel Fanibuyan, but it was the home side who scored next. Lee Robert made a good run down the left on 71 minutes and crossed into the box for RYAN REDFORD to tap home from inside the 6 yard box for 3-2 and his 30th goal of the season in only 23 starts.
On 74 minutes it looked for all the world like Potters Bar would equalise, but Ashley McAloon somehow cleared off the goal-line. Nicky Marsh came on for Paul Taylor, Scott Neilson was booked for dissent, hat-trick hero Ryan Redford limped off on 81 minutes, being replaced by Peter Lane, and Potters Bar made their final two substitutions but the nearest to an other equaliser was when sub Charlie Moxon fired straight at Mark Virgo.

Final score: Hertford Town 3 Potters Bar Town 2
