SATURDAY 15 DECEMBER 2007 - SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
RUISLIP MANOR 1 HERTFORD TOWN 0
The Blues dominated the whole game, making chance after chance, all spurned, before Ruislip Manor scored with their only chance of the game in the fifth minute of injury time. Ironically, most of the added time had been because of Manor's time wasting tactics towards th eend of the game.
Midweek injury victims Pablo Ardiles and Phil Goss were still unfit, joining skipper Kevin Kilroy, so Hertford lined up as follows:
1. Lee Robinson, 2. Nicky Marsh, 3. Louis Lancaster, 4. Matt Watts, 5. Glenn Draper, 6. Ryan Wade, 7. Dave Hunt, 8. Ross Collins, 9. Ryan Redford, 10. Kevin Cooper (capt), 11. Lee Roberts. Subs Used: 12. Panayiotis Panayiotou (for Wade, 80), 15. Matt McArdle (for Roberts, 70)
Ruislip Manor: 1. James Christian, 2. Steven Lawrence, 3. Julian Morrison, 4. Rob Parillon, 5. Terry Hudson, 6. Michael Walker, 7. Justin Bailey, 8. Andy Myhill (capt), 9. Seye Adegoke, 10. Darryl Campbell, 11. George Mapes. Subs Used: 12. Jeylani Sufi (for Campbell, 78), 14. Seed Sufi (for Adegoke, 88), 15. Aaron Kelly (for Walker, 57)
From the off, it was Hertford on the attack, with everyone, including the small number of home supporters expecting a landslide victory for the visitors, Ryan Redford won a 3rd minute corner, and when Ross Collins floated his kick into the box, Glenn Draper powered an on target header into the grateful hands of 16 year old keeper James Christian. It was a repeat on 7 minutes, Redford again winning a corner. This time it was Lee Roberts who found Glenn Draper's head, and again Christian was able to grab the ball with both hands. Manor won a corner when Kevin Cooper headed behind defending a 40 yard free kick, but were unable to threaten. Again Hertford attackedand won their third corner, again with the same result as Glenn Draper managed to head goalwards. On 13 minutes, Hertford had a free kick 20 yards out when the lively Ryan Redford was fould right in front of goal. Ryan Wade's kick was deflected for corner no. 4. with the ball falling to Ross Collins, whose hasty half volley sailed well over the bar.
Manor's Seye Adegoke had a nice turn and shot which Lee Robinson was able to watch past his right hand post Before Hertford's onslaught continued. Two more corners were conceded by the home defence before Hertford got their best chance so far on 27 min- Ryan Redford received the ball right in front of goal but seemed unable to get the ball out form his feet to shoot properly, and when he did, the ball was deflected to Lee Roberts, whose effort appeared to be blocked on the line. Another corner came and went then, in one of Manor's sporadic attacks, Adegoke's shot was blocked by Nicky Marsh on the chest, with the home contingent appealing for hand ball. Keeper Christian made another good stop on 36 minutes when he beat down a Redford shot, after Ross Collins had played a delightful reverese pass to the No. 9.
Manor's Justin Bailey curled a 30 yard free kick some way over the bar as the home side won more of the possession in the final minutes of the half, without ever looking likely to score.
Half Time : Ruislip Manor 0 Hertford Town 0
Hertford came out for the second half smarting from a dressing room blast from manager Greenwood and for 10-15 minutes totally pinned Manor in their own half. The early chances fell to Lee Roberts and twice he shot disappointingly over the bar. Ryan Redford won corner no. 8 and when Lee Roberts centred the ball, Redford saw his diving header flash just outside the upright. The Blues' best chance of the game fell to Kevin Cooper, but when the leading scorer tried to lift the ball over the outrushing James Christian, the youngster managed a superb block to save the day.
Manor made the game's first substitution on 57 minutes when they brought on another striker, Aaron Kelly, for midfielder Michael Walker. On the hour Kevin Cooper won a corner, and Matt Watts came close to turning the ball home at the far post. Nicky Marsh took a long range free kick out on the right, and when the ball fell to Lee Roberts, the winger had to take a hurried shot with his right foot, which went over the bar. The vistors took their corner count up to twelve with three in the space of a minute, as they threw everything at the stubborn home defence, in which Rob Parillon was outstanding. Kevin Cooper headed past the post from the last of these. Manor's skipper became the first player to be booked, on 69 minutes and then Hertford made their first substitution, sending on Matt McArdle for Lee Roberts, in a move the object of which was not readily apparent. Ruislip Manor won their second corner of the game as Hertford relaxed a little, then sent on Jeylani Sufi for Darryl Campbell, as the tried to slow the game down. Kevin Cooper's frustration bolied over and he was shown a yellow card. Pany Panayiotou came on for Ryan Wade on 80 minutes, but appeared to be filling a similar role, as the visiting fans hoped for more srike power up front. Manor made another lengthy substitution with Adegoke being replaced by Seed Sufi and Ryan Redford became the second Hertford player booked, for a remark made to the linesman. Kevin Cooper headed narrowly wide and, with the game in it's 95th minute, Manor somehow got down to the Hertford end and, although Lee Robinson beat out the first shot, JUSTIN BAILEY was first to the ball to smash it home for the unlikliest of results. Ironically, the goal was scored in the time added on by the referee for the timewasting tactics of the home side!
Final Score: Ruislip Manor 1 Hertford Town 0
