The entire match report for this game could be written in two lines. A stunning strike from RYAN WADE after a truly turgid 48 minutes was cancelled out by a howler of an own goal from Mark Virgo. Any more is just padding!
Hertford should have been looking for revenge for the travesty of a result earlier in the season at Grosvenor Vale, but played the game as if they had little clue how to combat the enthusiasm but little else of their visitors. Ryan Wade came to the rescue twice in the first minute, in what appeared to be a holding midfield role, but soon, he was up supporting lone striker Cooper. On 7 minutes, Mark Virgo took the safety first option when he tipped a lob from Michael Buckley over the bar for a corner. When Hertford won a central free kick 30 yards out on 10 minutes, keeper James Harry turned his effort round the post for a corner. The game degenerated into probably the worst fare seen at Hertingfordbury Park this season, with nothing of note happening until Manor keeper Harry dropped a 39th minute Lee Roberts cross, but neither Ryan Wade nor Kevin Cooper could get to the loose ball before Harry smothered it to retrieve his mistake. A minute later, Ryan Wade's free kick deflected off the wall for a corner.
Ruislip Manor, who had posed no threat whatsoever in the first period, withdrew striker Steve Carr at half time, peferring Saaed Sufi .
Hertford looked like they had received a stern lecture at half time and came out looking much more like they meant business. Harry saved a Kevin Cooper shot on the turn before RYAN WADE smashed home a glorious volley from 22 yards which brought gasps of admiration and was worthy of a far better match than this one. As the rain began to fall, Hertford started to look like the goal had finally sparked them into life. It did not last though, and the match fell back into the mediocre affair it had been in the first half. Skipper Cooper was trying his best to add to the lead, but his shots were always at keeper Harry, who was not to be troubled again during the rest of the match.
There seemed little danger when, on 64 minutes, Ruislip Manor forced a corner in a rare attack. When the ball came over, home keeper MARK VIRGO pushed the ball over his own goal-line when under pressure from Manor's Matt Plaskett. As it came out again, Nicky Marsh volleyed it against the crossbar and over the line again, just in case.
Neither side looked capable of getting the winner. Hertford gave a first appearance to reserve team winger Marcus Cumberpatch and moved Lee Roberts inside to play as a second striker, but the determined Ruislip Manor held on for their third successive draw.
At least Hertford avoided the ignominy of losing twice to the basement side, but one point from six against a side of such limitations needs some explanation.
Final score: Hertford Town 1 Ruislip Manor 1
