Hertford Town 2 Stotfold 1

After the disappointing result on Saturday the Blues gave joy to their fans with this well fought 2-1 victory.
James Peagrum scored twice, his first goal within 10mins. A long ball from Alex Crowhurst split the defence and a lightning fast Peagrum was first to the ball, sliding it under the hapless keeper. As the players came back for the restart it appeared Alex Crowhurst had picked up a knock and required the 'magic sponge' from masseur Amy Siggers.
Peagrum's second goal was setup by a darting run through the middle into the box from Reece Dobson who showed the defence a bit of skill, cutting back then crossing to the far post for a waiting Peagrum to tap in. Have a look at the photo - there are smiles all round.

The second half Hertford began by attacking... it didn't last too long, probably one attack then they were on the back foot. Amongst the waves of pressure there was a melee around the goalmouth - apparently the ball crossed the line... but we couldn't see it from the Stable End so it didnt count. It didn't matter though as in the confusion the ball was cleared, came back into the box and found it's way into the net via Andy Carter. Cue nail biting....
Reece "Dobbo" Dobson did well to stem the biting. He raced clear onto a ball from midfield, chipped the keeper and watched in slo-mo as the ball dinked against the post and back into the loving arms of Stotfold's keeper Brad Gillham. In a brief exchange to the Stable End, Gillham exclaimed "I got a hand to that" - maybe he did!
The Blues continued to look for a nail in the coffin and won a few more corners. One resulted in the ball pinging around the box, there were legs, arms, heads and lips all flapping at the ball. Even Joel Maybury got a shot in!
In the last 5mins Stotfold attacked and nearly scored if it wasn't for a superb save from Lee Robinson (there's a photo of his cat-like reflexes). James Peagrum had one last attempt for his hatrick with a shot outside the box, the keeper definitely got a hand to this one and tipped it onto the bar.
The ref soon blew for fulltime and there was sheer relief from the fans with much singing from about 6 people. It was a good win, let's hope the team can take the fighting spirit into Saturday's FA Cup match.
